Coronation
Every person has a dream, a goal in life. Everyone has heard the dreams of J.K Rowling, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, and the most known, Martin Luther King Jr. Their dream was to have an impact, whether small or large. They wanted to leave a legacy on the world. Grant Schlichting and Grace Hall will leave just that. On Monday, October 2nd, the lovely couple were crowned homecoming king and queen. When...
Monday pep fest
Overwhelming, chaotic, and attempted humor are words to describe the Cannon Falls homecoming pep fest. After the talent show on Monday, October 2nd, the students walked to the high school gym, only to find a bunch of mats on the floor. To start the pep fest, Student Council announced the dress up days, with examples of each. Grant Schlichting, the high school student council president, explained, “This...
Friday pep fest
Players ducking and dodging flying shoes, phone cases, lunch cards, and people wearing orange. Participants running up and down stairs on bleachers filled with people. Players racing through deserted hallways desperate for paper towels. All to win a silly game. Well those of us who haven’t actually got the chance to participate in the scavenger hunt might think it’s a silly game but boy are they...
Lunch games
Lunch games were anything but a success with our CF students. Whether it be the lack of effort by the student council, people not knowing about the games, or simply students just didn’t want to leave their delicious food, there were very few participants in the lunch games. For the few that did partake in the activities, there was Baggo (that bean bag throwing game where everyone gets way too competitive)...
It’s no picnic in the park – wait…yes it is
Burgers, brats, and beans. Practically sums up all that happened on the Senior’s Yearly Picnic up at Lake Byllesby. The same thing every year, but there is one difference with every class throughout Cannon Falls. The memories. This is a time when the whole class comes together for a group picture and just getting to spend time with the kids they have grown up with. The idea of “S...
Homecoming dance
Just as school was ending Friday, the word quickly spread throughout the students that the football game had been postponed until the following day. This left one more event for Friday that nearly everyone was anticipating: the Homecoming dance. Unique to Cannon Falls, the dance is completely casual with shorts and T-shirts as the most common attire. It was held from 9 pm-midnight in the gym for g...
Talent show
The Cannon Falls HS/MS students all know that the best part of homecoming week is the chaos. The students get shortened class time and some days an entire class may be replaced with activities. Not all students are athletes or football fans, but that doesn’t mean the youth aren’t excited for the the game. Plenty of us participate in extracurricular activities, and those of us who aren’t usually...
Elementary pep fest
As the Elementary students file in one after the other, the sound in the gymnasium grows louder and louder with each new child. However, that sound is nothing compared to the eardrum shattering screeches that occurred when Chase Reber, Senior and captain of the football team screams out, “Who loves football?” to the crowd of attentive young fans. The elementary school pep fest is always a fun time...
Buffalo Wild Wings
The crowning of a new monarch is a historical event. King Louis the XIV, Queen Elizabeth the 2nd, and now from Cannon Falls, Grant Schlichting the 1st and Queen Grace Hall. The Coronation feast to follow included the majority of the Senior Class parading to their banquet hall for the evening, Buffalo Wild Wings. As the King and Queen approached the doors, a deafening roar exploded from their subjects...
Parade
During the 2017 Homecoming Parade, the floats became more like boats as heavy downpours of rain drenched everyone participating, much like Noah’s Ark. The band float started chanting jokingly, “Impeach! Impeach! Impeach!” at the student council president due to their wet instruments. On the musical float, the girls were wearing their dresses that they will wear for their show while getting drenched....
Powerpuff volleyball
For the Homecoming Powerpuff volleyball game the seniors won as always, however all the other grades will tell you otherwise. The line judges and ref were all seniors, which raises some people’s suspicions as to the authenticity of the calls. Some of which made the audience think there was a little (a lot) of bias towards the seniors. The first game was seniors against juniors with no definite w...
Pep band
Walking into school is normally a boring and daunting task that all students abhor. As they trudge along to their lockers, they can’t help but feel the end of their happiness as another school day is about to begin. But then, a hero arises... from the band room? The young group of spectacular individuals emerged from the band room ready to save the mornings, and finally bring back the lost school...
