Humanities trip and the virus

After a year of fundraising, the Humanities students lose their trip to Europe

EF Educational Tours has postponed all tours and travel to Europe in March and April. They sent out an email saying, “Our focus right now is returning our students who are in Europe” and further described the precautions they’re taking in light of the Coronavirus. Unfortunately, the Humanities class at Cannon Falls High School always plans their biennial trip to Italy and France through EF Educational Tours and, while their trip is currently scheduled to happen in early June, things are looking fairly bleak for the trip abroad. At the last Humanities trip meeting this past Wednesday, Nicolette Hernke, one of the teachers for Humanities and the lead coordinator of the trip, expressed that she was still planning on the trip happening and was very determined to help the hardworking students get across the pond and see everything they’ve studied in class. Mrs. Hernke also explained her backup plan to go to Great Britain instead of Italy and France or go to another country that the class had studied over the past two years. However, with the events of the previous weekend that cancelled school for two weeks, an impending travel ban, and Italy being put on lockdown, they might have no other option than to cancel the trip. There’s not much that is certain right now and all that the travelers can do is wait for more news on what will happen. But one thing that’s been agreed upon is the highest priority: the well-being and safety of the class. If the tour to Europe is too dangerous for the group, then they will not be going.
