Pro sports and the virus

Sports fans will have to find entertainment through reruns

There is a pandemic spreading. Covid-19 is a new found virus that is causing a lot of havoc in the world today. A major issue when it comes to this virus is the amount of events being cancelled. One major example is professional sports. Sports around the world being affected are: golf, soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis, hockey, football, running, and even the Olympic Games.
The first sport on the list of cancelations is golf. The Masters, which is a large golf tournament, will be postponed until further notice. The PGA tour which is the Professional Golfers’ Association is canceling many tournaments until the week that The Masters were scheduled for which was April 9 through the 12.
The next sport on the list is soccer. The United States Men’s and Women’s Team friendlies, or preseason scrimmages in March and April, have been canceled. The Premier League season has been suspended until at least April 3. The Women’s Super League, the Women’s Championship, the Championship, League 1 and League 2, in England are all suspended until April 3.
Basketball has also taken a fall due to this virus. The NCAA has cancelled its men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, meaning the famous March Madness tournament is no longer on. The NBA announced on Wednesday night that it was suspending the season until further notice.
Along with those major sporting cancellations baseball, tennis, hockey and running are also taking the fall. Baseball is the first discussed sport that is suffering the consequences or Corona. The MLB is postponing the start of the regular season for at least two weeks. The Association of Tennis Professionals has temporarily prevented its tour for six weeks. The NHL is at a hult until further notice with only three and a half weeks remaining. The NFL is still planning on having the 2020 draft as scheduled in April, but public draft events in Las Vegas are cancelled. Major marathons are also being suspended or cancelled. The Boston Marathon is rescheduled for September 14th. The New York City Half Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, has been canceled. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics are still on as of right now but postponing the event is still up in the air. The spread of Covid-19 which has resulted in the diminishing of many sports is a very unfortunate event but the world can get through this.
