So this is Christmas
In the small town of Christmas, Oklahoma, Finley Brown has been blackmailed to give Arthur Chakrabarti Watercress and his Aunt Esha the best American Christmas ever. The novel “So This Is Christmas” by Tracy Andreen follows Finley as she must provide an itinerary of activities for Arthur and his aunt that include going on a sleigh ride, roasting chestnuts on an open fire, feeding reindeer, viewing Christmas lights, attending a holiday soiree, and frolicking in the snow.
Arthur and Finley go on many Christmas adventures together to give Arthur the perfect American Christmas, however, there are a few mishaps here and there. Finley tries to wrangle her emotions about her parents splitting up along with the heartbreak of her ex-boyfriend dating her best friend. Arthur is surprisingly helpful and romance seems to bud between Arthur and Finley.
The beginning of “So This Is Christmas” is slow and after the first thirty pages it was hard to continue reading. The book started with Finley running into a pond in order to help a bee, which is weird because there aren’t many sixteen year old girls that would jump into a pond to help a bee. The description of Arthur was awkward as he was said to weigh as much as a young great dane. The story started off pretty weird and didn’t become a warm, fuzzy Christmas story until at least eighty pages in.
The adventures Finley and Arthur went on made the book more enjoyable. There were multiple romances spread throughout the book that were sweet and helped the book move along faster. Finley’s emotion made the book relatable. Further into the book there is more information on Finley making her a good character to connect with.
This Young Adult romance novel is perfect for anyone looking for a sweet Christmas story. In fact “So This Is Christmas” would be a good Christmas gift for young adults looking to try a romance novel for the first time. Also contributing to the novel value is it’s beautiful cover and inside pages that are lined with snowflakes. At first I might not have been sold on this Christmas romance but the sweet story grew on me and I ended up really enjoying the novel. “So This Is Christmas” might not have been the perfect Christmas novel, but it will give the reader a perfect taste of holiday cheer.
