Lurking amongst the bone-chilling cold and snow are signs of spring. Some humans dare to let slip plans for the welcomed warmth. Some dare to dream up possibilities of ending the school year with a bang. The Cannon Falls Trap Shoot Team is calling everybody to envision spring, filled with safety, fun and marksmanship (the priorities of the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League) through an informational and sign-up meeting on February 10th in the IMC at 7 pm.

Finally approved in Cannon Falls this year, trap shooting has been growing in popularity like a flower in warmth and sunshine. Beginners and experts alike are being called for, as long as they hold a fire safety certificate. So come one, come all. Mr. Pliscott admires trapshooting for being the sport where “you can have a little sixth grade girl go up, compete against a big 250 pound senior boy and she can beat him. She probably will beat him.” Sorry, boys.

Anybody who chooses to participate gets to shoot and earn points; there are no second-string shooters, so the benches may remain chilly with the final bite of winter. “Everybody does the same thing.

” Everybody gets the same opportunity to improve, which makes it unique from other sports,”

— Mr. Pliscott

notes Mr. Pliscott, school contact for the team. To add to the uniqueness, the MSHSL is the only high school athletic association to sanction a high school trapshooting tournament as five weeks of competition will culminate in a state tournament. Venture to do something new and extraordinary this spring, attend the meeting, give it a shot.
